About Me

Deb Hanson (she/her) BNurs (Hons), Grad Dip Mid, Dip HB (KGH), IBCLC, Level 7 Masters in Frenulotomy

Hello! Bonjour! Ciao!

Who am I?

Thankyou for visiting my website and finding out all about how I can help you to have the best parenting journey for you. I am really passionate about infant feeding choices, empowering people to do what is right for them and achieving their goals. I am proud to work with the LGBTQ+ community and I am experienced with families of multiples. You can read my 5 star reviews Here

What do I do?

I work as an NHS Community Midwife and a private Lactation Consultant. I was part of the original team to achieve the first Baby Friendly Initiative Status at Birmingham Women’s Hospital where I started in 2003 and I have worked as a Specialist Midwife in Infant Feeding being the unique link midwife for the community midwife teams in South Birmingham. I have run large voluntary breastfeeding support groups in South Birmingham with a charity called La Leche League- one of the first parenting support charities. I am a member of Lactation Consultants of Great Britain (LCGB), Association of Tongue-tie Practitioners (ATP), the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

In my spare time (what’s that?!) I like to walk my dogs, (but that’s only really because I also like eating chocolate!) I have 4 amazing children and live in beautiful Worcester, having spent most of my life in South Birmingham.

What is an IBCLC?

IBCLCs are health care professionals who have provided 1000+ hours of infant feeding support, plus 90 hours of lactation-specific education and then in 2019 I passed a 4 hour board exam, which we need to pass again every 5 years.  All IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and in addition I am registered with Lactation Consultants of Great Britain (LCGB). Therefore this is the highest qualification obtainable in breastfeeding in the world which makes IBCLCs a real fountain of knowledge for Infant Feeding Support!

What about tongue-tie?

I completed my Advanced Clinical Skills in Tongue-Tie Management course at the University of Wolverhampton (Masters, Level 7) with my clinical practice at Kidderminster Minor Injuries Unit as part of Worcester Royal Acute Hospital. The private clinic in Worcester is registered with the CQC and is just a few minutes from junction 7 on the M5.

I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you on your journey! Get in touch with any questions!
